Happy Holidays December Fishing Report

Happy Holidays December Fishing Report

Lost Anchovy Christmas Edition

Sorry for not posting for a few weeks. With the incoming storms and cold weather conditions, it has not been optimal to get out and fish. Here is my quick update for the month.

Along the coast

My Buddy Tim and I made a run up north to Albion to do some late season Rock fishing and Abalone diving. The wind and swells laid down for most of the weekend but we got hit with the winter cold snap. It’s been awhile since i’ve last camped out in such cold conditions, however my sleeping bag (True to the reviews) held up against sub freezing weather. Beautiful conditions and lots of fish killed for dog food. Life is definitely good.

I don’t know why I continue to believe my friend smokeonthewater (won) aka The Kim Jung Un about turner cut resort.  The Delta has not been my friend. Fished Turner cut four times now and not 1…yes ONE legal striper. It is fun to catch undersized fish but eventually you got to bring home the bacon. Although the blue gill fishing was off the hook!!! thanks to Fishcomb.  Combat fishing blue gill is an experience i won’t soon forget.

New year new yak!

I’m ushering in the new year with a new YAK! I’ll do a review of what I like about the 2015 Hobie Revo, now that i have spent some time on it. I really enjoy some of the upgrades that Hobie has made. However, there are also design changes that i hoped hey would have just left alone.  Either way i’m luke warm with the changes to the hobie revo but it’s been a sweet ride thus far. I’ve taken it to the Bay, Ocean and Delta. So far so good.

Awaiting Herring Season

The Herring Season should be starting soon.  There have already been reports about some shoals moving into the bay to spawn. Although the larger shoals have yet to arrive, I’m anticipating the rains will drive the spawn soon. Last year early January and February were the HOT months for herring. Get YOUR HERRING SEX party on.

Feeling Crabby for crabs?

If you’re feeling a little anxious about the upcoming crab season, or just given up like i have, you’re gonna need to wait a little longer. There is still no word from the commission on when the season will open. It seems like the HMB and Monterey Bay area are normal but the north coast is still high. Either way, i’m hoping for the best but not expecting much for crab this year. Crabs are available at local stores for 7.99 a lb from supplies up north…yeah, i’ll just wait it out.

Til next month

I’m gonna be slowing down on the reports for now, so i’ll probably be posting monthly until the spring. It’s winter time and getting out on the water is getting tougher.
