Learn to catch Coastal RockFish Tutorial

Rock Fish are a good bet when the swells and winds are down in Monterey while Sand Dabs, a local delicacy, are found in depths of 100+ ft, using a simple sabiki lure and some squid. Both species are plentiful in Monterey and are great foraging fish.

RockFish are caught all along the reefs using scampis, diamond jigs, or shrimp flies, or even floating a whole squid. Becareful!! Monterey is known for EPIC White Sea Bass runs. If a big fish takes off with your squid and spools 200+ yards it could be your lucky Day!

Remember the new retention regulations for lingcod is “one” per trip, down from “two” from a year ago.
