Hi, my name is Keith and welcome to another episode of TLA audioblog. This week topic is: Tips to start your own personal blog, vlog, and youtube channel. So let’s get started
What is a blog or vlog
A blog a regularly updated website or web page, typically one run by an individual or small group, that is written in an informal or conversational style. Vlogs are Video blogs, which has been gaining popularity and traction over the last few years. These are the youTube channels of the world.
A quick reminder; If you enjoy this type of content, make sure to hit that like, and subscribe button to get future notifications.
It’s your guilty passion
I usually ask a person who is considering starting a blog or youtube channel.
What are you passionate about?
Are you passionate enough to write 10 articles about it? Can you write 20 articles? How about 30, 40 50?
You get the idea.
If you are going to succeed in the long run, you need to be able to talk about your subject day in and day out because that is what you are going to need to do.
You can’t counterfeit passion. Your passion is the key that connects “YOU” to your audience. Without the passion there is no connection and no audience. People will come to see you, at first out of curiosity, but without that connection they will not stay or come back.
Be genuine
In the world of #fakenews and deep fakes, being genuine and real is becoming an outliner. However, there are things to be said about being “real”.
I pose this question to you –the audience
Do you like a “real” hamburger or “fake burgers? If you had the option between a wild caught salmon or “farm raised salmon” which one will you choose?
The key here is building “Trust” with your audience. Trust is established when people “feel” you are the real deal, backed up by action and they correlate that with value.
So when you speak, make sure you speak honestly and truthfully to your audience.
It will go a long way. It’s not what you way, but how you make them feel; and if they trust you, your audience will grow.
Dedication
Dedication and consistency is the key to building your audience, and following. Consistency is the key to much of life’s success. Those who lack passion, consistency and focus will not do well.
You can’t counterfeit this stuff guys.
Make no mistake it is hard work,
But I pose the question is it really work?
Remember you are enjoying the work that you do and adding value to the lives of those who follow you.
Let me stress that again. It is about adding value to the lives of the people that follow you. Adding value can be many things such as teaching someone how to fish, caroche, cook a meal or dealing with their relationship break ups.
I think one of the greatest fulfillments as human beings we can have is the ability to connect with other people. Today with the Internet the possibilities can seem endless. Through social media sites such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, there really is no excuse. If you want to connect, you can.
Building a brand & adding value
Provide a clear focus on what your brand represents, and a mission statement will go a long way. Tell people right away what your blog or Vlog is all about. Let there be no ambiguity for your audience. Don’t make them work for it or they will leave in confusion and probably not come back.
- Be specific
- Be clear
- Be Succinct
Organize and Share you knowledge
The Internet is full of information and knowledge. Articles, and webpages that float to the top of search engines have a few things in common. 1) They are well organized and 2) the information is relevant to the end user.
By relevant, I mean
Did you provide the answer that the user queried or asked for?
Now there are lots of metrics that google and search engines use to determine relevance but the end point is still the same.
Did you meet the user needs and give them the answer that they wanted. That determines relevance
Benefits of starting a BLOG and Vlogs for the content creator
Personal fulfillment and purpose
We all want our lives to have purpose. We all strive to live our lives to highest degree. Always striving to be the best version of ourselves, if not for ourselves, then for the people we have established meaningful relationships with.
The only thing that ever really limits us is our own internal fears. I say conquer you fears, and add value to the world.
In the words of one of my favorite authors, Dr. Wayne Dyer
“ Don’t die with your music still in you”
Never living up to your fullest potential.
Because you are afraid.
No one is promised tomorrow. So learn to live TODAY!
Passive and active income
Advertisers and brands love to connect to blogs that have authority and draw an audience. They want to associate their brand with your brand. It’s a mutual beneficial for both parties.
You work hard to create content that adds value to the lives of others.
You should be compensated and you will.
Becoming a better writer and communicator
I would say, the majority of problems in this world come from lack of communication or miscommunication in itself. Those that do well are good communicators. They can express their thoughts, ideas, and vision to others succinctly, clearly and honestly.
- They move us
- They inspire us
- They make us feel something
I can say that when I started my blog some 5 years ago, I was a poor writer. I was a poor speaker and my grammar could be improved to say the least.
I read many books to improve my communication.
I took classes as well.
Ultimately, I keep writing; I kept communicating,; I kept practicing.
and that made all the difference.
Conclusion
If you are considering starting a blog, vlog or youTube channel, my advice is to DO IT! Don’t stress out too much if your audience isn’t growing fast right away. – It will take time.
Don’t worry if you don’t get many “views” and “likes”, you don’t need those validations. Remember you are doing this for yourself, to add value to the world. Those people that jive with what you are saying will find it, subscribe and support you, and that is all I have for today.
I hope this audiocast helps those who are the on the fence about starting a channel of blog. As always good luck and tight lines –TLA
Wow! I had a great time reading your blog. This is an excellent piece of writing. Your site will come in handy when I need to persuade someone to use toner.
