Introduction

A few months ago I started seeing a thread online about a lithium ion battery made by a fellow Kayak Angler CHET Tep. For simplicity purposes we decided to call his product “CHET” Batteries.

To be honest I was rather curious about his product. I have always been wary about Lithium ion Batteries simply because of their ability to over heat and cause damage.(i.e Samsung Galaxy Note 5), however, with the advancement of the battery technology it seems like those concerns are marginal.

Having heard good reviews from fellow Anglers, I reached out to CHET to test out his battery and put it to the CHOVY test. If any product can withstand my beatings I think it should warrant some consideration.

Let’s get started!!

The Review

As an Avid Kayak Angler there are few things that I want to key in on. Having logged hundreds of miles on the water, I know what I want from my battery.

  • I want my battery to work!! Each and every time!!
  • I want my battery to withstand corrosion and the salt
  • I want my battery to last (2-3 days)
  • I want my battery to be affordable

Did Chet’s battery meet these standards?? I put his battery to a live test to see where it stood. (Watch the review here)

The Good

  • Strong and Sturdy Build
  • Ring for Waterproofing
  • 18 month warranty (Product defects)
  • Firm and solid connection
  • Built in electrical fuse
  • Recharges fast (2 hours)

The Bad

Last 2.2 days (Expecting/Hoping 3)

Over all Rating:

I give this product 4.5/5 Chovy’s and a good Chovy review

Conclusion

Chet’s Battery is a solid product as others have testified. It can withstand my beatings and keep on going —That is impressive.

The price point is fair compared with other products on the market. It is meant to last and provide hundreds of quality time out on the water. As an avid angler, I want my equipment to just work, and CHET’s battery does just that – it worked.

Good luck and tight lines –TLA
